A group show in Chelsea brings together seventeen artists from around the world who are somehow separated by six degrees. They’re studio neighbors, distant cousins, have aesthetic affinities, you name it, but there’s a connection there somewhere. Whatever the connections are or aren’t, the show “Yeah We Friends And Shit” is a colorful and refreshing summer show.
Upstairs on the second floor of this large Chelsea gallery building, the Josée Bienvenu gallery is showcasing some fresh works. We especially love the “Did I shave my legs for this” sculpture by Natalie Labriola and Mingering Mike’s three new record sleeves from his (imaginary) prolific music career.
Marti Cormand cleverly makes cigarettes and rubber bands as well as ripped cardboard, all out of clay, to look exactly like themselves. The paintings by Ken Solomon of Pandora record covers and stills from You Tube Music videos are spellbinding and amongst our favorite pieces in this energizing group show.
