Loopy Mango is owned and eclectically curated by Waejong Kim and Anna Pulvermakher, two cool taste makers who met while at FIT.
Most famous for their enormous balls of yarn. The store feels more fashion than craft, despite the fact that they are famous for their cool knitting classes.
Their yarn comes in alpaca and merino and is all produced in the United States, sourced from local farmers and spun and dyed at local mills. The knitting classes they offer in store are super satisfying. In one session you actually finish a garment such as a scarf, throw blanket or vest. It’s the amazing thick yarn, it grows in to a luxurious piece much faster than regular yarn. We were taken with the gorgeous thick throw blanket which only takes an astonishing 2 hours to knit.
Loopy Mango may also be the best place in New York to pick up interesting holiday gifts. They pride themselves on sourcing original and locally made, non mass produced products. They have a beautiful range of buttery soft wool blankets made in American mills as well as hand-woven rugs and bags from Central and South America. Candles, vintage ties, children’s toys, throw cushions, vintage linens, fake security cameras, and some hip fashion clothing lines. Trust us there really is something special here for nearly anyone in your life.
We fell in love with the papier-mâché animal busts that are found throughout the store. Hippos, dogs, giraffes, each one an affordable piece of art and maybe the most unique gift we’ve found this season.
The enormous space is packed floor to ceiling with antiques you fall in love with. Waejong’s husband is an antiques dealer from Massachusetts and together they have furnished the space with bounty like a blue vintage canoe propped up high on a ledge, enormous antique signs and amazing furniture. Absolutely everything is for sale here, every antique, chair you sit on or display cabinet is yours for the taking.
The light filled room at the back of the store is currently devoted entirely to Christmas, with one of the best selections of ornaments, both vintage and new we’ve seen anywhere in the City. Things like vintage light up nutcrackers and delicate glass ornaments for your tree will put the most die hard humbug in the mood for the holidays.
