We must have walked past Pasticceria Rocco a thousand times without realizing what we were missing. Looking for a sugar hit recently, a friend pulled us in to Pasticceria Rocco, which we have to tell you, had never looked very appealing to us from the street. Boy were we wrong. Upon walking inside, it was if we had found the mecca for baked Italian goods. The line that wound around the store was proof that what was behind the counter was going to be amazing (New Yorkers don’t wait in line unless it’s good).
Pasticceria Rocco is an Italian Bakery that opened in its current location in the West Village in 1974 and is still run by the same family. Famous for their cannoli, which are hand filled when you order them, we couldn’t hold back. We ordered a black and white cannoli filled with their Italian sweet cheese filling and sprinkled with chocolate chips and powered sugar. We didn’t get to try the cheesecake which several people in line told us was the best in New York City. We did however sample many of their melt in your mouth buttery, incredible cookies, everything tasted spectacular.
Despite our many years in New York, discovering this incredible old Italian bakery was such a delight and we are happy to report, it’s now a new hot favorite spot in our lives.
