When you walk in to Andrew Masullo’s show at Mary Boone Gallery in Chelsea, you fall in love with the simplicity of color of the many different works populating the enormous gallery. We hate to sound shallow, but the vibrant colors reminded us of all the color blocking we have been seeing in fashion lately but Andrew Musullo is definitely not motivated by fashion. He’s thought of by many as a “painter’s painter” having had a huge profile in the last Whitney Biennial. In his mid 50s, Musullo has been quietly painting in his own style since his first show in the East Village in the early 80s.
We love this show, its strength, its total whimsy and all just with the simplicity of beautiful and strong color combinations. The show closes this weekend.Andrew Masullo. Mary Boone Gallery. 541 West 24th Street. New York. 10001. Closes 27th April. 2013.
