It takes every inch of self-restraint not to reach in and touch Roni Horn’s glass sculptures at Hauser and Wirth in Chelsea. Like a cross between giant gummy candy Dots and peaceful pools of water, the sculptures are low, wide cylinders with polished glass tops that feel very much like a perfect pool of resting water. Each piece is its only subtly different hue, with colors so restful the installation makes you the feel like you’ve walked by a lake or a mountain stream.
Roni Horn lives and works in New York. An artist whose work spans many mediums including photography, drawing and sculpture, this show contains two enormous galleries of giant glass sculptures with a room of large-scale drawings in between. Much celebrated across Europe and in the UK, Horn’s work was the subject of a large survey exhibition at London’s Tate Modern museum in 2009. Her work is held in major collections and museums such as the Whitney, MoMA the Guggenheim and the Tate Modern.Roni Horn. “Everything was sleeping as if the universe were a mistake”Hauser & Wirth. 511 West 18th Street.
