On Tuesday night, Rick Owen’s partner Michèle Lamy (photograph bottom page), GQ’s Glenn O’Brien and Mazdak Rassi threw a “A Fashion Retrospective” party showcasing vintage fashion and it’s influence on contemporary culture. As you would expect from such fashion royalty, the pieces in the show are exceptional and all for sale. We loved Jean Paul Gaultier’s black shirt with hands that wrap around the neck, Katharine Hamnett’s green leafy catsuit and the artistry of pieces by the likes of Comme des Garçons, John Galliano ,Stephen Sprouse, Claude Montana and Vivenne Westwood.
Staged in the James A. Farley Post Office, New York’s Central post office, it was crazy to enter the post office where on one side New Yorker’s lined up to mail their holiday packages while the fashion crowd slipped through a discreet velvet rope. People headed up stairs to drink martinis while checking out some of the best vintage ever in an abandoned part of the post office. From today until Sunday, the exhibition is open to the public, we suggest getting there early, not only to see some of the best fashion ever made, but to wander the abandoned halls of New York’s largest post office.A Fashion Retrospective. The Abandoned Space At The James A. Farley Post Office. 8th Avenue at 31st Street (enter on 8th Avenue). NY. 10001. Open to the public 12-15 December. 11am-8pm, 2013
