The Met’s famed Costume Institute announced yesterday that they will rename the space currently occupied by The Costume Institute as the new Anna Wintour Costume Center. The beautifully redesigned complex will reopen on May 8 with an exhibition on legendary Haute Couture designer, Charles James.
For the past 15 years, Anna has been a tireless fundraiser for both the Costume Institute and the renovation which boasts a new 4,200 ft main showcase gallery and a conservation lab. Her work on the now star-studded gala has placed the Costume Institute front and center of the global fashion scene.
Charles James, though born in London, began working in New York City in 1940. He is regarded by many as America’s most important Haute Couture designer. His mastery with cut and unique design will undoubtedly be showcased to stunning effect at the opening in May.Charles James: Beyond Fashion. The Anna Wintour Costume Center.
