On a recent shopping trip we came across a watch made by Shinola. The watch, with it’s double leather wrap around strap, had that look of being an update on your grandfather’s favorite timepiece. It turns out Shinola are just a few years old and have a story just as unique as the gorgeous watches themselves. Deciding to start a business in the economically challenged Detroit, they set up shop to make 100% hand-made American watches. They soon branched out in to making beautiful hand-crafted leather goods like baseballs, journals and handbags as well as an exceptional line of vintage looking bicycles.
The watches are much more affordable than your average Swiss watch (prices start around $495). Our favorite watch, the Women’s Gomelksy Double Strap is sold out everywhere in Detroit but in New York where people are just discovering Shinola, we managed to track it down.
